When You Call My Name is a collaborative arts project honouring civilians who were brought from Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands, and across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand as ‘Japanese enemy aliens’ to be interned in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand during WWII, and died during internment.
Cowra Voices Audio Archive Project
The Cowra Voices Audio Archive Project archives 18 interviews with Cowra residents recorded for Cowra Voices, a geolocative storytelling app about the unique history of Cowra’s friendship with Japan and grassroots peacebuilding. Transcripts of these interviews also form part of the Archive.
Cowra Voices App
Cowra Voices is a geolocative storytelling app developed by Nikkei Australia with Cowra Council. It was launched in 2019 to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the Cowra Breakout.
The Cowra Japanese War Cemetery Online Database
The Cowra Japanese War Cemetery Database provides individual information on the 524 graves in the Cowra Japanese War Cemetery. The project was commissioned by the Embassy of Japan in Canberra and was launched in 2019.

Yasukichi Murakami Through a Distant Lens
Nikkei Australia’s Mayu Kanamori wrote this multimedia theatre production about historical figure and Japanese photographer, entrepreneur, and inventor Yasukichi Murakami. The production premiered in 2014.

Civilian Internment Arts Program
The Cowra Civilian Internment Arts Program was produced and presented by Nikkei Australia’s Mayu Kanamori with the Cowra Musical & Dramatic Society in March 2014.
