Nikkei Australia founding member Mayu Kanamori’s photographic exhibition Teiju to wa Nandaro (What does it mean to settle?) will open on Friday 28 August and run until Friday 25 September at Murdoch University Art Gallery in Perth, Western Australia.

Teiju to wa Nandaro is a photographic enquiry into Japanese migration in Australia. As part of this exhibition, Mayu’s video work You’ve Mistaken Me for a Butterfly will also be screened on a loop.

When You Call My Name ceremonial performance on Saturday 29 August 1pm-3pm at Pendopo/Indonesian Pavilion, Building 451, Murdoch University. Reserve a place for this event here.

When You Call My Name is an arts project initiated by Mayu, and includes artworks by 166 artists, honouring the 208 civilians who were interned as ‘Japanese enemy aliens’ and died during World War II. The first exhibition was held in Canberra in 2025.
