Watch Nikkei Australia founding member Dr Keiko Tamura’s Zoom presentation (in Japanese language) about Japanese war brides’ life stories in Australia. The event was a Kobe College Society of English Studies seminar. Dr Tamura’s lecture begins four minutes in, and ends around 53 minutes, followed by a Q & A session.

In this lecture, Dr Tamura explored women’s experiences of meeting their future husbands in occupied Japan under the strict anti-fraternisation policy, their migration to Australia under the White Australia policy, and their ‘assimilation’ into Australia.

Dr Tamura’s book Michi’s Memories – The Story of a Japanese War Bride (ANU Press, 2011) is available in both English and Japanese.
