Nikkei Australia member Dr Tianna Killoran is hosting a special history trail walk and symposium exploring Australia’s shared histories with Japan.
Walking Through Time: Australia Japan Symposium and History Trail will be held on Monday 30 June 2025 in Townsville, north Queensland, home of the first Japanese Consulate in Australia.
The symposium will be held in the morning (in person or online) with talks by Australian and Japanese scholars, artists, and historians. In the afternoon, Tianna will host a walking tour of historic sites in Townsville’s city centre.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.
Tianna is an Associate Lecturer in Humanities and Social Sciences at James Cook University. Her PhD thesis, completed in 2023 is entitled The Near North and the Far North: The Nikkei Community in North Queensland, 1885-1946.
